PICTURE ARCHIVE OF GRAFTON STATE HOSPITAL
The following pictures are gathered from a vast number of sources.
Each one is quite rare, with the exception of the postcards which can often be found at online auctions.
Still, not many pictures survive from this institution, which, like others, had a policy against taking pictures to protect the interests of the institution.
Today these policies still exist at operating state institutions for the sake of confidentiality, hence all pictures of patients are rare and should be handled with respect for the depicted.
The buildings and infrastructure of Grafton State Hospital have been documented by two major efforts: by E. Farrand in 1973, and Anna Schuleit from 1995 through 2002.
Samples are shown from both bodies of work. Please contact 1856.org if you plan to use any of these pictures for your own purposes.
All images are copyright protected.
